Vaccinations for 9 to 10 year olds
Subject: Age
for second H1N1 dose (12/10/2009)
The question
regarding the vaccinations of 9-10 year olds was raised.
Question:
If a child is 9 when he/she receives the first H1N1 vaccination
but turns 10 before the second vaccination is due. Does the
child need the second vaccination?
Answer:
A very timely question, and NO, the child
who turns ten before the next shot does not need the second
dose.
parents and Health Care Providers do what
is appropriate at the time the child is due for the vaccine.
When a child turns 10, he/she does not need
2 shots. The line between 9 and 10 is an artificial marker
and does not represent a true change in immune competence.
