On or about April 15, 2008 the County of Morris will close and begin
removal of the steel bridge located on Stephensburg Road near the intersection
of Old Turnpike Road in Washington Township, Morris County.
The reconstruction project plans for a new bridge is twenty-six feet wide. It is anticipated the project will take about three months to complete. The contractor, Caro Construction Corporation of Florham Park NJ, has provided assurances that the reconstruction project will be completed by September 1, 2008 in time for the opening of local area schools.
Construction on the project is scheduled between the hours of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, with occasional construction occurring on Saturdays.
The contractor will install Jersey barriers and directional signage
on both sides of the construction zone at least two weeks prior
to construction commencing. Detour signs will provide directions
to motorists. Commuters should plan alternate routes.
Police Officers will staff the closure points for the first two days after construction
begins to assist motorists and residents. If you have any additional
questions or comments, please contact Lt Pat Monhan at the Washington
