A Free Community Notification System

An early snowstorm in October of 2008 set the stage for the Washington
Township Committee to explore a low/no cost method of contacting
its residents in case of a serious matter or emergency. They conducted
a survey to determine resident’s preferences for a method of notification
in case of an emergency.
After careful consideration, the Township Committee decided to participate
in a free notification service sponsored by Nixle. This service
provides by email, text messages and a web site for notifications.
There is no cost to participate. Your personal information is
secure. You need only to provide an email address, a general geographic
location (a street address is not required) and cell phone number. There
is no requirement to receive text messages to your cell phone, and you
may opt for any combination of cell text notification, the web notification,
an announcement via twitter and/or email.
We urge you to participate in this service, so you may be better informed
in case of an emergency, traffic congestion, or important community notification.
You always have the opportunity to opt out of the free service at any
time. To sign up, please go online to and
register for both the Washington Township and Washington Township Police
Department feeds.
