The Lieutenants oversee the operation of the various divisions of the Department:  Patrol, Administrative and Support Services.

The Patrol Lieutenant, Lt. Mark Niemynski, supervises the Patrol Division, the most visible portion of the police department, with 20 police officers. The Patrol Division is responsible for the initial response to reports of medical emergencies, accidents, fires and crimes. The Patrol Lieutenant also is the liason with County Communications and the Municipal Court, handles training, is the agency Public Information Officer, Internal Affairs,  and submits the Uniform Crime Report.  Lt Niemynski can be reached at (908) 876-8303 or This email address is being protected from spambots. The duties of the Administrative Lieutenant, are shared by Sgt. Jeff Almer and Det. Sgt. Chris Bratus.  Their duties include:  liaison to the  County Prosecutor, the contact person for the Municipal Alliance, the Schools, the Division of Child Protection,  outside contractors, policy and procedure updates, discovery, and buildings and grounds. Sgt. The Support Services Lieutenant, Lt Douglas Compton, supervises the Support Services Division, composed of the Traffic Bureau, Detective Bureau and Records Bureau. The traffic bureau is responsible for reviewing accident reports and working with traffic related issues.  The detective bureau handles follow up investigation which were initally started by the patrol division. Records handles all documents that are created by the department and disseminates them to the public upon request.  Additionally the Support Services Lieutenant oversees impounds, alarm registrations, OPRA requests, police fleet.
